The vineyard and the winery

The Winery
The winery, founded in 2000 along the “Val di Mazara” wine route amongst vineyards and olive groves, which contribute to some of Sicily’s splendid views, was constructed within an antique courtyard or bailey dating back to the 1800s, but which has been renovated and restored and which reflects rural Sicilian architecture while maintaining the charm that characterized ancient times.
It is equipped with small stainless steel tanks for winemaking with automatic temperature control, in line with modern and rational techniques aimed at achieving the highest quality.
The wines are left in steel tanks for six months, and then refine for an additional two months in the bottle.

“Masseria Vecchia”
Giglio began its adventure in the “Masseria Vecchia” vineyard. Located in the Belice Valley, it lies within the PDO of Delia Nivolelli and the PDO of Sicily, as well as IGP Terre Siciliane.
It possesses a dark gray clay soil with medium-fine texture.
Several native varieties are cultivated there, including Grecanico, Catarratto, and Nero D’Avola, as well as international varieties like Merlot.
The training methods favor the vertical trellis system with bilateral Guyot pruning, except for the Nero D’Avola, for which a vertical trellis system using a spurred cordon with four spurs is employed.

“San Nicola Cantuni”
Situated along the banks of the Lago Preola and Gorghi Tondi Nature Reserve, the Reserve is a unique area in many ways. It is precisely for this reason and due to the surrounding scenery that this place has a lot of natural, scenic, and wildlife value, and there is a set of karstic ponds, which are valuable for the waterfowl, which can be found there.
Average calcareous soil, 400 m. away from the sea that gives the grapes, and thus the wines, a particular aroma and salinity.
Several native varieties are cultivated there, including Grillo, Catarratto, and Zibibbo, as well as international varieties like Syrah.
The training methods favor the vertical trellis system with unilateral Guyot pruning, except for Syrah, which employs a vertical trellis system using Guyot pruning and with canes producing 5-6 buds.
